Living in the moment is something I discuss a lot. I believe every second of our lives has something to offer. I believe that with each passing moment we are creating the life that we will experience five years from now.
But unfortunately as much as we try, there are moments in life that pass us by. Sometimes we realize we missed an opportunity and then say something like “Dang! I wish I woulda (insert missed opportunity here).”
Sometimes we miss moments altogether because we’re wrapped up in texting a friend or just mentally preoccupied by thinking about what we have to do later that day. In moments like these it’s almost as if we are sleepwalking through life. These things happen. The only thing we can do is try to be fully alive and alert in each moment as it occurs.
Other times we may not even realize what is occuring in the moment. Maybe we are aware of what is happening, but we do not see the message or the importance of what is happening. Some moments you won’t understand the true value and purpose of until it becomes a memory.
Memories are valuable. Your memories provide you with context for your current relationships or can help you deal with a challenge in the workplace. While you don’t want to dwell in the past, clinging to certain memories is a natural way to deal with the present. They are like tools in your tool belt.
Remember your moments. Remember the better times and hold tight to those memories that put a smile on your face. Remember difficult times and learn from any mistakes you may have made. Maybe that moment three years ago just seemed like a random instance in your life, but that moment back then can help you survive today.
Live in the moment, but learn from your past. Memories of moments can propel you through anything if you let them.

I like this. I’ve recognized and learned that most people (and me) miss opportunities and being in the moment due to living in the world of make believe. The land of trying to keep up appearances or keeping up with the Jones and not humble enough to live our truth. It’s the reason why we keep friends who will co-sign nonsense for validation and forget that people who demand the truth are the gardeners who make our soul blossom.
We all miss our moments when we have debilitating thoughts, destructive connections to people, your past, bad habits and anything else that has you dependent and stuck. It is nice when we are reminded by people like you to control-alt-delete and recognize precious moments.
